On Tuesday 15 February 2022, a meeting took place in Jaca (Huesca) that brought together, in person and online, more than 50 climate change experts from the Pyrenean border territories: Euskadi, Navarre, Aragon, Catalonia, Andorra, Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie.
The Pyrenean Climate Change Observatory led and coordinated this meeting, during which they worked on how to put into practice the ideas that have already been put into practice for actions that will be the leverage for the development of the Pyrenean Climate Change Strategy, which has the year 2030 as its horizon.
After a plenary meeting, the participants were divided into four groups corresponding to four systems: climate, resilient natural spaces, adapted mountain economy or population and territory, within which the most relevant issues for promoting climate action were discussed.
The aim of this cross-border meeting was to define the tasks, products (deliverables), roles and responsibilities of each partner for each of the systems, but no less important is the objective of establishing a dialogue between entities on both sides of the mountain chain to configure the consortium that will coordinate the actions.
All these elements will be the basis for the preparation of climate projects that will seek to attract European funding to implement these actions. One such potential funding is the LIFE SIP (Strategic Integrated Projects) project known as LIFE Integrated.
The OPCC has already obtained a LIFE AT (Technical Assistance) project "Towards a transnational and resilient mountain area", which aims to finance the preparation of the integrated LIFE application.
