On May 30 2019, the Moraine association (French Pyrenees Glaciers Observatory) successfully completed its annual measurement of the average accumulation in the form of snow over the entire Ossoue glacier.
This association, created in 2001, aims to compensate for the lack of knowledge of the glaciers on the French side of the Pyrenees, and promotes regular monitoring and systematic measurements of their length, surface area and volume.
By collaborating with Spanish glaciologists, the association is able to gather information for the entire Pyrenean chain and wishes to disseminate as widely as possible this data, which is crucial for raising public awareness in the territory.
This year 2019, the measurements showed an accumulation of 2.41m of Water Equivalent, the 5th worst accumulation in 18 years (the average being 2.81mEqE). You may find below the accumulation data for the Ossoue glacier since 2002:
