Project objectives
The SANASILVA project aims to develop a cross-border early warning mechanism for pests and diseases, strengthen joint diagnoses and share experiences to effectively manage forests in challenging situations. Ultimately, this joint effort demonstrates the importance of international cooperation in preserving our valuable forest resources.
The Pyrenean forest provides numerous services:
- Environmental: through, for example, the storage of CO2, the regulation of water flows, biodiversity...
- Social: for its role in protection against risks, its recreational and landscape function,
- Economic: because it supports a rural and mountain forestry-timber sector, contributing strongly to the maintenance of populations and activities in these geographical sectors, promoting the circular bioeconomy, contributing to the attractiveness of tourism. The main objective of the project is to help guarantee the sustainability of forests and the services they provide.
As such, it contributes directly to the three challenges of sustainable development, to the Paris Agreement through its role on CO2, to Sustainable Development Goals 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 15 and 17 through its numerous environmental, social and economic contributions, responding directly to these challenges
The OPCC galvanizes the network of actors and capitalizes on the knowledge of Climate Change in the Pyrenees, with the geoportal for example. Through ADAPYR he has deepened his knowledge of the forestry sector and its adaptation to Climate Change. Several SANA SILVA actions are prioritized in the EPICC, a strategy supported by the OPCC.
The CTP-OPCC participates in A2: communication and dissemination, A3: support for the development of the strategy, providing all available data and experience. Also on the A4 to guarantee the capitalization and transfer of the results through the OPCC Geoportal, and other planned events.
