FINAL LIFE MIDMACC SEMINAR ON REPLICABILITY AND TRANSFERABILITY WILL TAKE PLACE ON THE 26th OF APRIL

  • 05 Apr

In the framework of the LIFE MIDMACC project, co-financed through the LIFE programme, the Pyrenean Climate Change Observatory organises the final replicability and transferability seminar. The LIFE MIDMACC project promotes adaptation through the implementation and monitoring of different landscape management measures to face the challenges of climate change in marginal mid-mountain areas in Spain (La Rioja, Aragon and Catalonia), while improving their socio-economic development.

The event will take place next Friday 26 April 2024 in an online format from 10:00 to 12:30. It is a public seminar and registrations can be made here.

During the seminar, the main results of the LIFE MIDMACC project will be presented in the document "Measures for adaptation to climate change in the Mediterranean mid-mountains: a practical guide", as well as the lessons learned manual for the transfer and replication of adaptation strategies of the MIDMACC project.

On the other hand, the meeting will be used to advance the potential for replication of the project's experiences in other Euro-Mediterranean mountain territories. Finally, there will also be a space for exchange between territorial political representatives, where the debate will focus on identifying the most effective strategies to ensure the impact of the project's results on sectoral policies.

The context of the MIDMACC Project

The mountain areas of southern Europe are very sensitive to the effects of climate change due to the severity of droughts and the increase in fires, among others. In addition, these territories suffer the effects of depopulation and the consequent decrease in socio-economic activities, which leads to a progressive reduction of the so-called "mosaic landscape" and an increase in wild vegetation.

MIDMACC works for the recovery of this "mosaic landscape", based on a combination of wild spaces and spaces dedicated to agricultural, forestry and pastoral practice, which favours the adaptation of mid-mountain areas to the impacts of climate change.
