The LIFE PYRENEES4CLIMA project, an ambitious cross-border cooperation initiative for climate action, has made significant progress during its initial implementation phase. With the participation of 40 beneficiary partners and a comprehensive approach to climate change adaptation, the project aims to make a transformative impact in the Pyrenean region.
One of the most noteworthy milestones has been the launch of 33 demonstrative pilot cases across the Pyrenean territory. These initiatives are designed to test innovative solutions for climate change adaptation, focusing on areas such as water management, biodiversity, agriculture, and natural hazard management, with the goal of replicating successful models in other regions.
The project has organized territorial meetings in the seven regions comprising the Pyrenean range. These events have been crucial in coordinating local efforts, engaging communities, and tailoring actions to the specific needs of each area.
Another key development has been the definition of impact and monitoring indicators, essential tools to measure progress and assess the effectiveness of project actions. In parallel, the project has published the EPiCC Dashboard (Pyrenean Climate Change Strategy), an innovative digital tool designed to ensure transparent tracking of advancements.
LIFE PYRENEES4CLIMA has also released its first Climate Bulletin (BICCPIR), providing a snapshot of the impacts of climate change in the Pyrenees over the last three years. This publication combines scientific data with local testimonials, highlighting observed climate trends and the challenges faced by the region.
Lastly, the project is preparing for a major event: the First European Forum on Climate Change in Mountain Areas, which will take place from June 18 to 20, 2025, in Bagnères de Bigorre, at the foot of the iconic Pic du Midi de Bigorre. The forum will bring together experts, policymakers, and local communities to share knowledge and foster collaboration on climate action.
Through these actions, LIFE PYRENEES4CLIMA reaffirms its commitment to a sustainable and resilient future for the Pyrenees, addressing the challenges of climate change head-on in one of Europe’s most iconic mountain regions.
