First edition of the Cross-Border Summer School ADAPT

LIFE-SIP PYRENEES4CLIMA

The University of Pau and the Pays de l'Adour is organising the first edition of the Cross-Border Summer School in the Pyrenees from 23 to 26 June. The cross-border course is organised by the TREE 6031 CNRS laboratory and its objective is to offer twenty beginner researchers interested in climate change an approach to applied research oriented towards the challenges of tomorrow.

The ADAPT summer course aims to develop a network of young professionals to generate multidisciplinary exchanges that will help to find practical answers to the challenges of the Pyrenean territory, taking into account its socio-economic and environmental diversity.

The course is being held within the framework of the Life SIP Pyrenees4Clima project, as part of the training activities, it is funded by the European Union and led by the Pyrenean Observatory on Climate Change (OPCC) of the Pyrenees Working Community (CTP).

The course aims to foster cooperation between the territories of the Pyrenean massif to make them more resilient.

Programme and information about the summer course - -Cross-Border Summer School

23rd to 26th June

The course will last six and a half sessions and will include four types of activities:

- Presentation session: at the beginning of the course, in order to get to know each other better, the students will present their research in the format ‘My thesis in 3 minutes’ with a presentation organised by interdisciplinary profiles.

- Scientific conferences: to identify the territorial challenges associated with climate change and the epistemological challenges of applied research. A field trip to the mountains to observe the risks and the adaptability of economic activities.

- Workshops for reflection in multidisciplinary groups where specific problems of adaptation of the territory to climate change will be worked on. In groups, the scientific and operational challenges of each problem will be worked on. Avenues for reflection and lines of research will be formulated. The objective is to create moments of exchange between students. On the last day, a collective presentation of the work will be made in order to reflect together on the territorial problems dealt with.

Accommodation and food

The ADAPT summer course will take place at the University of Pau et des Pays de l'Adour near the Pyrenees. The course, accommodation (double room), breakfast and lunch are covered by the project. Each student must pay for their travel to Pau and their dinners. Participants can discuss with their tutors and laboratories the possibility of covering the rest of the expenses.

Applications

Applications will be examined during the month in the order in which they are received. The organisers may accept or reject applications according to their criteria (balance between disciplines, institutions or geographical areas). Most of the work will be carried out in French, and a minimum level of understanding of the language is required. Students may express themselves in Spanish or English if they wish.
