Within the framework of the LifePyrennes4Clima programme, Pyrenees in transition, the Cross-border Forum on Adaptation to Climate Change in Mountain Areas 2025, will take place from 18 to 20 June. The aim of the event is to bring together the various actors involved in adaptation to climate change, at local, regional, national and European level, and will take place in the French district of Bagnères de Bigorre, and is being organised by the Occitanie region.
This meeting will address issues such as changes in the cryosphere, the effects on natural resources and the impacts on the way of life and the economy of the Pyrenees. The aim is to generate and exchange ways and methods of mitigating and adapting to these transformations.
Similarly, practical, successful initiatives carried out in some regions will be presented and the evolution of European climate policies will also be analysed.
The forum programme will be divided into four main themes:
International Year of the Glaciers, a journey to the heart of the cryosphere, which will present the evolution of glaciers and snow, and their impact on water resources and ecosystems;
The impact of climate change on water, soil and mountain biodiversity, which will present cases of adaptation and analyse the European legal context;
The mountain economy, climate risks: adaptation strategies. A section in which we will reflect on ways of taking action through workshops, local experiences and citizen initiatives will be presented;
Field visits, participants will have the opportunity to learn first-hand about the evolution of glaciers, as well as awareness-raising and local economy projects.
This forum is an initiative organised within the framework of the LifePyrennes4Clima project, led by the Pyrenean Observatory of Climate Change, OPCC-CTP, and represents a valuable opportunity to promote collaboration and the exchange of knowledge between different actors committed to adapting to climate change in mountain areas.
