The Pyrenean Climate Change Observatory brings together over 50 international experts on climate change.

  • 18 Feb

On Tuesday 15 February 2022, a meeting was held in Jaca (Huesca) which brought together, in person and online, more than 50 climate change experts from the Pyrenean border territories: Euskadi, Navarre, Aragon, Catalonia, Andorra, New Aquitaine and Occitania.

The Pyrenean Climate Change Observatory moderated and coordinated this meeting, which focused on how to put into practice the ideas that have already been put into practice for the actions that will drive the development of the Pyrenean Climate Change Strategy, which has a 2030 horizon.

After a plenary session, the participants were divided into four groups corresponding to four systems: climate, resilient natural spaces, adapted mountain economy or population and territory, in which the most relevant issues for promoting climate action were discussed.

The objective of this cross-border meeting was to define the tasks, products (deliverables), roles and responsibilities of each partner for each of the systems, but the no less important objective is to establish a dialogue between the entities on both sides of the mountain range to configure the consortium that will coordinate the actions.

All these elements will serve as a basis for the preparation of climate projects that will seek to attract European funding to implement these actions. One such potential funding is the LIFE SIP (Strategic Integrated Projects) project known as LIFE Integrated.

The OPCC has already received a LIFE AT (Technical Assistance) project "Towards a Transnational and Resilient Mountain Area", which aims to fund the preparation of the LIFE Integrated application.
